In a perfect world I would sit around all day writing stories. This is, in fact, not all that far from what I imperfectly do – but there’s a giant difference between nonfiction essays and fictional short stories. It’s been a few decades since I took time out to write fiction, but here are two of my favorites. They’re among the 19 stories of the Marshallville collection which will be out soon.

Eddie Rakeleaves:
This story won a national fiction prize from Literal Latte in 1997.
Murder in the Biology Lab:
A finalist in the Cape Fear Crime Festival mystery contest, this story appears in a chapbook produced by CFCF.
