Sponsored by Atlanta’s truly fine bookstore A Cappella Books (“Smartest bookstore in town,” Creative Loafing newspaper dubs them), this event was held at historic Manuel’s Tavern, where yours truly used to hang out in the 1960s with the newspaper folks and progressive pols of the day. The latter included founder Manuel Maloof, who eventually ran for DeKalb County Commission and wound up chairman of that illustrious group– so I got to cover him for the local papers. Being back at Manuel’s was like coming full circle for this writer (here kneeling not exactly prayerfully — it was just a good way to rest and read.)
